Reinstalling From Scratch
For English Speakers
You may encounter a situation where you need or want to reinstall
the standard software onto the PC110 from scratch, returning it to
it's "out of the box" original configuration. If you have
the port replicator and external floppy drive, this is difficult if
you don't read Japanese, but here's a "cookbook" procedure
for doing it. You will need two of the diskettes that came with your
PC110, which are labeled as follows:
System Install Diskette:
|
 |
Personaware Install Diskette:
|
 |
If you need any files stored on the internal flash drive, copy them
off to diskette first. The contents of the internal flash will be
completely rewritten by the following process. This process takes a
few shortcuts in order to keep it simple.
- Turn off the PC110, hook up the floppy drive, insert the System
Install Diskette into the floppy drive, and turn on the PC110. The
PC110 should boot from the diskette, though it will take noticeably
longer than booting from flash.
- A copyright statement will appear, followed by a menu with 7 items
on it. Choose #4 to reformat the internal flash drive. Answer the
prompts in the following order: "N", "C",
"Y", "Y".
- The screen will clear, and the format program will run. Type
"Y<enter>" at the prompt to tell it that yes, you
really do want to reformat drive C. You should see it format 3.88MB,
after which it will prompt you for a volume label. Just hit
<enter> to get back to the main menu
- Choose #1 from the menu. Answer the prompts "N",
"Y", <enter>. The machine will reboot twice. Have no
fear, it's supposed to do that.
- The second time it reboots, it will extract PTP110.LZH onto the
flash drive. When this is done and you get a text box on the screen,
eject the floppy and hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. The PC110 will boot off of the
internal flash drive, ending with a DOS/V prompt.
- Insert the Personaware Install Diskette and type
"A:<enter>INSTALL<enter>".
- The Personaware install program will launch (it's much prettier
than the DOS/V install program). At the first prompt, press
<enter> for the default directory of C:\PW. Personaware will
proceed to install (you can go get a cup of coffee at this point; it
takes a while).
- After a couple of minutes, a dialog with some text and four
buttons along the bottom will appear. Use the arrow keys to hilight
the rightmost button and press <enter>. This should bring you
back to the DOS prompt.
- Eject the floppy and reboot the PC110. It is now configured
exactly as it was originally.
